RBI Hikes CRR

The Reserve Bank of India has hiked its cash reserve ratio by 75 bps to 5.75% as against 5% at its credit policy meet today. (100 basis points=1%)
The move will be implemented in two stages. The first 50 bps hike will come into effect on February 13 while the next 25 bps hike will be effective February 27. The move will result in a mop-up of Rs 36,000 crore by February end.
The central bank has left unchanged the reverse repo, repo, and bank rate at 3.25%, 4.75%, and 6% respectively.
This move by RBI is a step to control the rising inflation. The Reserve Bank had earlier projected the inflation to be around 6.5 per cent by fiscal-end.*

Nifty Has a Support at 4700

As I have mentioned in my earlier post, dated 22 July,Nifty came close to 5250 level, actually it made a high of 5181.It was waiting for a bad news for a correction. The Reserve Bank of India raised the minimum amount of money that banks have to keep in the form of liquid cash, gold or government bonds, called the Statutary Liquidity Ratio (SLR) from 24% to 25%.It has also increased the provisioning for banks' advances to the real estate companies. It caused the indexes to go down .
Nifty can take support on 4700.

Charles H. Dow-The founder of Technical Analysis

Charles Henry Dow was a journalist. He was born in Sterling, Connecticut on November 5, 1851.
He founded the Dow Jones & Company with his two reporter friends.Dow was also the founder and first editor of The Wall Street Journal. He developed some certain methods to understand and analyse the dynamics of the market which are known as Dow Theory.

The stock market has three movements:
1.Primary or major movement ,which lasts from one year to several years,
2.Intermediate Movement,which lasts from 10 days to 3 months(Retraces to 33% to 66%),
3.Minor movement, which can last few hours to a month.

The stock market has three trends:
1.accumulation,
2.public participation &
3.distribution.

He introduced the Dow Jones industrial average in 1896,by tracking the closing stock prices of twelve companies, adding up their stock prices and dividing them with twelve. One year later he introduced railroad averages. His view was ,if industrial average and the railroad average go together then it is a bullish signal for the economy. He also insisted to focus on volume and said steady increase in volume gives the idea that trend is getting stronger. He died in Brooklyn, New York,in 1902 at the age of 52.

Jesse Livermore

"It took me five years to learn to play the game intelligently enough to make big money when I was right."

One of the greatest trader of all time,Jesse Livermore. His view on day trading was,"There are times when money can be made investing and speculating in stocks, but money cannot consistently be made trading every day or every week during the year. Only the foolhardy will try it. It just is not in the cards and cannot be done."
